Signed for what is now considered a bargain £7million from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, the Wales international has become an indispensable member of Daniel Farke’s squad and an absolute favourite of the Elland Road faithful. Comfortable in the centre of midfield, or in central defence, Ampadu’s leadership skills and presence on the park make him absolutely crucial to Leeds’ style of play. His impressive performances will no doubt attract admiring glances from elsewhere, but the hope is that he can be a mainstay at Leeds for the foreseeable future.
Leeds United survival the focus after Wales World Cup heartbreak
Ampadu is not just a vital cog in the Leeds United machine, he is also the ticking heartbeat of the Wales national team. The 25-year-old had designs of playing for his country at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, but a heart-wrenching penalty shoot-out to Bosnia-Herzegovina means Craig Bellamy’s men will not be travelling to the tournament this summer.
Instead, the focus for Ampadu will be on helping Leeds maintain their Premier League status. There is still work to be done in that regard, and hopefully he can channel the pain of his World Cup disappointment into helping the Whites remain a top-flight club for the 2026-27 campaign.
