Crysencio Summerville: World Cup windfall update after Leeds United transfer

Crysencio Summerville finds himself back in the Championship, only two seasons after leaving Leeds United for West Ham.

Leeds fans revelled in the Hammers’ relegation on Sunday, despite falling to a 3-0 defeat at the London Stadium on the final day of the season.

That was largely due to Summerville and the fact that they had already survived comfortably in the Premier League a couple of weeks before that.

Even those Leeds fans who laughed at their ex-winger’s expense will know that there is zero chance of him playing Championship football again, with another move now likely.

That transfer will catch the eye of those at Leeds, wherever he ends up, but first, Summerville will go to the World Cup with the Netherlands in North America.

Will Leeds get World Cup windall from Summerville transfer?

Many have been asking since Ronald Koeman announced his squad: Did Leeds include a clause for this in their deal with West Ham?

The short answer is no.

Graham Smyth has reported that his first senior call-up will not result in an added financial bonus for the Whites, despite that being quite common now.

Instead, he will go to the World Cup with no incentive for Leeds to watch on, but he could play Gabriel Gudmundsson and Ao Tanaka for Sweden and Japan in the group stage.

Have Leeds really replaced Crysencio Summerville?

They have, but there is still room for an even bigger upgrade for Daniel Farke.

Summerville was electric in his final year in LS11, but Dan James and Manor Solomon replaced him well in the Championship.

Both of those were deemed not good enough for the Premier League, however, so in came Noah Okafor.

Okafor was sensational in the second half of his first season at Leeds, but the other side of Dominic Calvert-Lewin is crying out for someone more attacking.

Brenden Aaronson has filled in well at times and is loved by Farke, but if the Whites want to go to the next level, he has to become more of a squad player.

Leeds are crying out for a new winger or number 10 to fill that role, and you would expect that is exactly what they’ll target this summer, regardless of the situation with Summerville.
