Daniel Farke‘s job as Leeds United manager looks more stable right now than at any point since the Whites were promoted back to the Premier League. The German has been questioned pretty much all campaign long, with murmurings that he would be replaced before the campaign had even started.
Director Peter Lowy recently confirmed that all talks regarding a contract extension for Farke – whose current deal runs until 2027 – are strictly off the table until Premier League survival is mathematically secured.
Farke is very much on course to achieve just that, however, having also guided Leeds to the FA Cup semi-finals, where Chelsea await. Regardless of what happens in the cup, keeping Leeds up will surely see Farke rewarded with fresh terms.
Daniel Farke’s managerial record:
| Club | From | To | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Win % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Borussia Dortmund II | Nov 2015 | May 2017 | 56 | 29 | 13 | 14 | 51.8% |
| Norwich City | May 2017 | Nov 2021 | 208 | 87 | 49 | 72 | 41.8% |
| Borussia Mönchengladbach | Jun 2022 | Jun 2023 | 36 | 12 | 10 | 14 | 33.3% |
| Leeds United | Jul 2023 | Present | 141 | 71 | 40 | 30 | 50.4% |
Who are the favourites to succeed Daniel Farke if he does leave?
Marco Rose emerging as the frontrunner earlier this season suggests Leeds United would be leaning toward a progressive, high-energy coach if they make a change. Rose’s teams are typically built around pressing, vertical transitions, and attacking intensity – traits that would feel like a natural continuation of the identity established under Marcelo Bielsa, and something the fanbase would likely buy into quickly.
He may also appeal to the 49ers ownership as a modern, upward-profile appointment, rather than a safer, more conservative option like Brendan Rodgers. His experience at clubs competing in Europe suggests he’s comfortable working with high expectations and developing younger players – another box Leeds tend to value.
That said, there are a couple of question marks. Rose has never managed in the Premier League, so there would be an adaptation period, and his intense style can sometimes lead to inconsistency or burnout over a long season. If Leeds are battling relegation, that risk might make the hierarchy think twice about whether now is the right moment for that kind of appointment.
