Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer transfer claim emerges amid Leeds United links
Sky Sports pundit Adrian Clarke has lauded Sheffield United for not selling Gustavo Hamer to Leeds United.
Speaking on the What The EFL?! podcast, as quoted by Football League World [27 September], Clarke claimed that the Whites desperately wanted to sign the 27-year-old this summer.
The Brazil-born player won the award for Sheffield United’s Player of the Season in 2023/24 and before that, was named Coventry’s Player of the Season on two occasions as well.
“He (Hamer) was their player of the year last year,” Clarke said. “Leeds wanted him quite badly, United resisted the temptation and they’ll be very glad that they did.
“Coming in off the left-hand side, he’s been easily their best player so far this season. He’s such a match winner, Hamer, isn’t he? I’ve liked him ever since I saw him play for Coventry City a few years ago.”
Gustavo Hamer would’ve been a solid signing for Leeds United
The 27-year-old would have been an exceptional signing for the Whites given his proven track record of excellence in the Championship.
His accolades as Player of the Season for both Sheffield United and Coventry City highlight his significant impact on the field, showcasing his ability to influence games with creativity and goal-scoring prowess from midfield.
Hamer’s versatility, particularly his effectiveness coming in from the left, would have added a dynamic attacking option to Leeds, enhancing their fluidity and goal threat.
His reputation as a match winner would undoubtedly have given Daniel Farke’s side a better chance at promotion.
The former Netherlands youth international’s experience in high-pressure games, like the playoffs and his capacity to deliver in crucial moments would have provided the Whites with not just skill but also leadership and composure in midfield.

Hopefully, Leeds do not miss his presence in the side and they’ve got the players needed to get promoted.
