Leeds United ‘Surprised’ by Nadiem Amiri decision to reject move after jetting into UK for transfer talks

Leeds United were left “surprised” by Nadiem Amiri’s decision to reject a move to the club after talks in the UK on Monday, report Kicker.

Writing on their official website (29 August), the German outlet report that the player travelled to Leeds via private jet for talks about a move with a transfer fee agreed with Bayer Leverkusen and personal terms agreed with the player.

But on Monday afternoon the player once again opted to perform a U-turn and reject the transfer to Elland Road, having already u-turned beforehand, leaving the Whites board “surprised”.

“On Monday, Amiri traveled by private jet from Dusseldorf to Leeds in order to make the switch to the Premier League relegation team after all,” they wrote.

“During the on-site visit, the former German national player (five appearances) took a look at the traditional club’s town and training grounds and held talks with those responsible, which, from the English point of view, should all have gone well.

“But in the afternoon Amiri told the United bosses, who were quite surprised, that he didn’t want to move to Leeds after all.

“The 26-year-old, who on Wednesday canceled the transfer that had already been completely negotiated between the two clubs and also the player and Leeds, but gave his yes word to Leeds on Thursday to revoke it on Friday, decided again against Leeds.”

Mental

The Leeds transfer window has completely manic but in recent days that has gone up a notch with this “saga” involving Amiri.

Daniel Farke clearly wanted the player and the club moved quickly to strike a deal, but the player needed some convincing. But instead of sticking to his word he has gone back and forth several times now, leaving us in the lurch.

There are only a few days remaining of the transfer window at this point and if doesn’t want to come then we need to find an alternative, but when he keeps giving mixed messages it’s hard for the club to make a final decision.

At this point though it’s clear that he isn’t interested and the Whites should make the decision for him by backing out of the deal completely and moving on to alternative targets.

He’s missed an opportunity to play regular football and while we won’t have his services to call upon, we’ll find someone else who actually wants to be here.

In other Leeds news, the club want to sign another Premier League defender on loan.
