Wilfried Gnonto: Italian media react as Leeds United loanee makes headlines after Fiorentina win

Wilfried Gnonto is finally enjoying his football again after joining Fiorentina this summer.

The Italian waved goodybe to Leeds United on deadline day, making the move back to his home nation on an initial loan.

With a hefty option to buy included, the winger may have already played his final game in LS11.

Daniel Farke always spoke positively about Gnonto, who loved Leeds after joining at 18.

After taking the Premier League by storm at first, he has slowly drifted down the pecking order at Elland Road.

Now, he's back on the pitch and thriving for the Viola.

It's not been an easy ride so far in Florence.

Fabio Grosso was sacked less than a week after Gnonto arrived, but he was replaced by Paolo Vanoli, who knows the winger well.

That seems to have actually helped him.

Gnonto started and played his first full 90 minutes for La Viola on Tuesday, as they progressed in the Coppa Italia.

Fiorentina beat Pisa with ease, 3-0, with the Leeds loanee finding the back of the net in the victory.

That was Gnonto's only shot on goal, while he carried the ball for over 100 metres, only having two unsuccesful touches.

How did the Italian media react to Willy Gnonto?

After three straight defeats at the start of the season, Fiorentina have turned things around.

This was their second victory in a row after beating Venezia 4-2 over the weekend in Serie A.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport shared their verdict in its print edition, with Vanoli and even Grosso likely happy after three new signings all found the back of the net against Pisa.

It was more of the same from Corriere dello Sport, who labelled Gnonto a "jewel", as he couldn't miss to finish off the beautiful move for his first goal in purple.

Farke and Leeds fans will be watching with delight for Gnonto's latest success, as he is one of the few who left Elland Road with the support of everybody around him.

With a possible windfall worth nearly £20million up for grabs at the end of his loan, that's serious profit waiting to be taken.
