Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil clash over Leeds United, Ipswich Town promotion prediction
Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil have given their thoughts on who will win promotion to the Premier League between Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Southampton.
Leeds currently sit third in the Championship, one point behind second-placed Southampton and one point ahead of fourth-placed Ipswich, both of whom have a game in hand.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast [7 February, 09:29am], Brazil said Leeds and Ipswich look “destined” for the play-offs behind runaway leaders Leicester City and in-form Southampton.
However, McCoist then suggested it is only Leeds and Southampton who are locked in a battle to join Leicester in the top flight, to which Brazil added: “Yes”.
Brazil then backtracked and added Ipswich cannot be ruled out yet, to which McCoist said: “No, no, no. You said ‘yes’.
Co-host Brazil added: “I said if we can make the play-offs I’d be delighted, and I think that’s what we’re destined for. So you can apologise in six weeks’ time.”
Championship promotion battle heating up
The automatic promotion race looked sealed up just a couple of months back as Leicester and Ipswich appeared to be running away with it.
However, Southampton and Leeds have both hit form at the right time, whereas Ipswich – as many thought would happen – have dropped off.
In fairness to the Tractor Boys, this is their first season back in the second tier following promotion last time out and they have been superb.
All it takes is for Kieran McKenna’s men to find a second wind from somewhere and all of a sudden they may be favourites for second again.

Southampton are on a club-record unbeaten run, meanwhile, but surely this impressive streak has to end at some point?
Likewise, Leeds will not win every game from now until the end of the season, but they are certainly capable of staying firmly in the hunt.
Whichever way you look at it, this may well be the most thrilling three-way battle for that second automatic promotion spot in Championship history.
