How Tarik Muharemovic would be instant Leeds United history maker once transfer sealed
Creating history at a football club is often difficult, but Tarik Muharemovic would have no issue at Leeds United.
The Bosnian defender has emerged as the Whites' top target to replace Pascal Struijk.
MOT Leeds News have been reporting on all the updates over the deal, as Muharemovic is set for his medical at Elland Road.
A £34.1million package with Sassuolo has been agreed for the centre-back and once announced, would be Daniel Farke's second signing of the summer.
Harry Wilson has already come through the door this transfer window, but Muharemovic would already have one over him.
That is because he would instantly be added to the Leeds folklore for one reason.
Why a move for Tarik Muharemovic is made even sweeter for Leeds
Over the years, Leeds have had players hailing from many countries. From South American to Asian and to Oceanic nations.
However, despite the club's history, they have yet to have a Bosnian player within their ranks.
So, Muharemovic would instantly become the first ever Bosnian to don the Leeds shirt, thus becoming part of the Yorkshire side's plentiful history.
Much of that outcome may be down to the backstory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The European country did not seperate from Yugoslavia until 1992 and did not officially compete in FIFA-sanctioned international matches until 1998.
So, in terms of countries, they are a relatively new nation. Leeds have had one Yugoslavian player in their history, in goalkeeper Sasa Ilic, although he was of Serbian and not Bosnian descent.
He only remained at Leeds from March 2005 until the end of that same season, without making a single appearance.
Could Leeds add even more Bosnian's to their squad?
After years of no Bosnian players, the Whites have been linked to plenty this summer window.
Leeds have been touted to sign Ermedin Demirovic, a striker who plays for Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
Meanwhile, Bosnian winger Kerim Alajbegovic has been linked with Leeds as well.
However, he currently looks set to make a switch to Italy with Atalanta in pole position.
So, unless the Whites reignite their interest in Demirovic, it seems that the incoming Sassuolo man would remain the sole Bosnian to represent the Elland Road side.
Not a terrible record to hold, and one that could never be taken away from Muharemovic.
