’49ers have it all wrong at Leeds’ as Mateo Joseph exit news emerges

Mateo Joseph’s future at Leeds United has been up in the air.

With Leeds’ Premier League campaign underway this time next month, most of the focus remains on players the Whites can bring to Elland Road ahead of their return to the top flight.

However, as important as that will be, decisions also need to be made on those currently on the fringes of the squad, with several exits on the cards.

One of those mooted for an exit has been Joseph, but the latest update on his future suggests that the 49ers have got it all wrong.

Leeds set to fend off Joseph interest

Joseph was linked with an exit from Leeds in the winter, though that move failed to materialise, and he remained at Elland Road, where he found minutes very hard to come by.

The Spaniard started just 11 games in the Championship and managed just 1,269 minutes under Daniel Farke.

With Leeds in the market for a new striker this summer, those opportunities are only going to be more limited, and yet Beren Cross has reported via X (18 July) that the Whites have no interest in selling him.

Given his age and profile, his sale could generate some healthy finances, and he wouldn’t be much of a loss to the squad, in which he barely featured.

By keeping him, the 49ers could be making a huge mistake, which could see his value plummet over the next campaign.

Leeds need to offload players this summer

Joseph is just one of many players who were deemed surplus to requirements for large parts of the last campaign, and as it stands, they are all still at Elland Road.

Players like Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood have no chance of having a part to play next season, and work must be done to secure exits for those on the fringes.
