Leeds learn what it'll take to sign Pavel Sulc from Lyon in deadline-busting move

Leeds United have been joined by a host of clubs in the race to sign Lyon attacker Pavel Sulc.

A new report claims that Aston Villa, Everton, Wrexham and Juventus are all keen on signing the 25-year-old Czechia international.

Leeds have been linked with Sulc throughout the summer transfer window.

And with just one week left until transfer deadline day, the Whites have learned it'll take £35million to pry the attacking midfielder away from Lyon.

According to Brazilian journalist Pablo Oliveira, Juventus have now opened negotiations to sign Sulc, while Wrexham are "preparing a record-breaking proposal" for the ex-Viktoria Plzen star.

As for Leeds, the signs are less promising.

What is Leeds' current stance on signing Pavel Sulc

In terms of hard developments regarding Leeds' interest in Sulc, there's been little to report on for several weeks.

On 18 July, Foot Mercato reported that the Whites had held talks about signing the Czechia international and that Lyon had valued their attacker at around £21m.

However, this latest update suggests they now want £14m more than that, which could be a cause of the transfer deadline getting closer and heightened interest in the player.

If Lyon deem to hard to replace Sulc, they'll demand more money to make it easier to bring in a new No 10. They also might be hoping for a bidding war between the interested parties.

But should Leeds throw their hat in the ring at this late stage?

Why Leeds might not sign Sulc

It's been an impressive summer for Leeds, who've signed Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, James Trafford and Nico Elvedi so far.

However, there are still a few new signings that need sorting out, including some more depth on the left-hand side of the squad and a new striker to ease up the goalscoring burden on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Sulc is an attacking midfielder by trade, but in his 42 appearances last season for Lyon, he played largely as a centre-forward.

He scored 15 goals and supplied 10 assists in multiple attacking positions, so he's definitely a versatile option that could cover plenty of bases for Daniel Farke.

However, an out-and-out striker should be Leeds' top priority and with Lyon raising their demands for the Czech ace, the Whites might want to avoid getting into a bidding war.
