Pavel Sulc's Lyon absence explained amid Leeds United 'revelations'
Pavel Sulc's absence from Lyon's squad for their latest pre-season friendly has raised some eyebrows amid links to Leeds United.
The Czechia international was named as part of Lyon's travelling party for their training camp in Germany.
Sulc competed in the World Cup and so is being slowly eased back into action.
However, he was expected to play a part against Slavia Prague on Saturday evening after featuring against Servette a few days earlier.
MOT Leeds News covered the news of Sulc being absent for Lyon hours after the Leeds links.
A reason behind the surprise absence has now emerged.
Pavel Sulc developments raise eyebrows amid Leeds links
Leeds are said to have opened talks to sign Sulc, who is available for a fee in the region of £21million.
For a player who contributed to 25 goals in 42 appearances for Lyon in all competitions last season, that is a very reasonable sum.
Sulc missing out for Lyon in their loss to Slavia has understandably led to questions being raised.
As per Olympique & Lyonnaise, it was decided the 25-year-old would play no part due to a minor injury issue.
Lyon did not want to take any risks, although that reason has done little to ease the concerns of the French club's fanbase.
The report outlines how this comes amid "revelations" of Leeds being in talks to sign the versatile midfielder.
The report adds: "For many, the connection will be obvious and readily made."
While Sulc is not exactly a household name, his impressive stats in Ligue 1 last season have earned comparisons to Erling Haaland.
Why Sulc has been likened to Erling Haaland
Sulc has an ability to impact matches with his goals and assists, which Daniel Farke would obviously love in attacking midfield.
He may not operate in the same position as Haaland, albeit he can be used up top, but Sulc has been likened to the Manchester City and Norway striker.
Nova Sport pundit Vojtech Tichava, speaking earlier this year, said: "He plays the role of Haaland.
"He isn't on the ball much, but he scores goals. I'm surprised how he's adapted to that role."
If those words do not get Leeds fans excited, then it is hard to know exactly what will.
Sulc's absence may well have been as innocent as a knock, but it will be interesting to see how this one now develops in the coming days.
