Wrexham have joined the list of clubs looking to sign Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt.

The Englishman is not in Daniel Farke's plans for the upcoming season.

A summer move has been mooted for Gelhardt, who is wanted back by Hull City, with Birmingham City also among the interested parties.

A timeline for Gelhardt's exit was shared by Hull's owner, but that wait could see him move elsewhere.

After seeing the 24-year-old net 14 Championship goals last season, a tally which helped propel Hull into the players, Wrexham believe he can do the same for them.

And that is said to be one of the main reasons behind the Welsh side's interest.

How much do Wrexham want to pay for Joe Gelhardt?

Gelhardt is attracting plenty of interest this transfer window, and Wrexham are poised to compete for him.

According to the Daily Mail, the Championship side are willing to fork out £4.5million to land a deal.

As previously mentioned, it is shared that Wrexham have seen the impact that Gelhardt had at Hull and that he could play a "similar role" as they eye promotion in the 2026-2027 season.

Wrexham narrowly missed out on the play-offs on the last day of the Championship season to Hull in 2025-2026.

While Hull do still want Gelhardt as per Acun Ilicali's recent quotes, they are working on other targets in the meantime, mainly Swansea City's Zan Vipotnik.

Which could leave Birmingham and Wrexham in a straight shootout for the out-of-favour Leeds man.

Why has it not worked out for Gelhardt at Leeds?

Gelhardt has never really had a chance to get going under Farke, with the German having plenty of options at striker throughout his time.

And that is ultimately one of the defining factors behind his Elland Road struggles.

Speaking back in 2024, as per Leeds Live, Farke admitted to that very fact stating: "His time will come, he has to prepare himself.

"I can’t complain about it. He is a top class human being and teammate. We just have lots of options, this is professional football."

As of right now, Leeds currently have Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha, Joel Piroe and Noah Okafor who can all play down the middle.

So the options have not dwindled, opening a space for him this season.

Additionally, while Piroe is earmarked for an exit, Leeds are in the market for a striker.

Gelhardt will have to leave in order to keep his career on track but the Whites will not allow him to leave cheaply, and it remains to be seen if £4.5m is enough from Wrexham.
