When Joe Gelhardt could officially leave Leeds United as timeline given

Joe Gelhardt has become something of a forgotten figure at Leeds United.

Arriving from Wigan Athletic, the young striker reminded many at Elland Road of a young Wayne Rooney.

Blowing academy teams away at Thorp Arch, Gelhardt was fast-tracked into the Premier League squad.

What followed were some memorable moments, none moreso than his late winning goal against Norwich after great work from Raphinha.

But, it never quite worked out fully.

Several loan spells followed with Sunderland and Hull City, with only one year left on his contract in LS11.

Joe Gelhardt exit timeline now officially set

MOT Leeds News has gathered information that Gelhardt's contract has actually risen in salary going into its final year.

After Hull City earned promotion to the Premier League, many expected him to stay at the MKM Stadium permanently.

But, that hasn't happened yet.

Hull owner, Acun Ilicali, has been quizzed on the potential move, and explained why it may happen, but not now.

"We will wait for the coaches decision," he told BBC Humberside Sport.

"I think they're good connections with Leeds, they let us get him two times, so if we want to get him again, we will have an advantage.

"The problem is, if he will be able to get playing time and being unhappy.

"Don't expect something on Gelhardt before another two weeks, at least."

So, it appears that Sergej Jakirović and Hull are going for bigger fish in the transfer market before looking at Gelhardt again.

Where did it go wrong for Joe Gelhardt at Leeds?

Despite those moments of brilliance, the young star was just never given consistent enough minutes or chances at Elland Road.

That was regardless of the manager, too.

Daniel Farke always preferred other options, and it's not hard to see why, with Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe available to him during the Championship.

All three were simply unplayable at that level, whereas Gelhardt was yet to fully prove himself.

He did just that at Hull, and despite it not happening in LS11, Leeds fans were still delighted for him.

With 15 goals in 42 appearances, including away at Millwall in the play-off semi-finals, it was a season to remember.

But, that hasn't transpired into a permanent transfer yet, at Hull or anywhere else for that matter.

Leeds are happy to sell, they've got rid of Pascal Struijk, Isaac Schmidt, Jack Harrison and Max Wober already.

As they spend big themselves, expect Gelhardt to find a new home soon.
