Why Gabriel Gudmundsson is one of five Leeds players under pressure with transfer window closed

Gabriel Gudmundsson could find himself under pressure at Leeds United this season.

However, the Swede will not be the only one feeling the heat.

It was an overall excellent window for the Whites, who strengthened across their squad without forking out a huge outlay in comparable to their Premier League rivals.

Daniel Farke would have known what he needed in order to bridge the gap to those above him.

And Leeds were not shy in the market to address those areas.

However, the arrival of new players will put plenty of pressure on other members of the squad with Gudmundsson likely one of those.

How early Gabriel Gudmundsson blow puts him under immediate pressure

There has been quite a shakeup at the back for the Whites, with James Trafford coming in for a club-record fee.

His position is unlikely to be under pressure, but the rest of the defence ahead of him may not be in the same boat.

The arrival of left-back Melvin Bard puts tremendous pressure on Gudmundsson, who has been dealing with an injury to start the season.

That already gives Bard a potential head start in making the position his own in the early stages of his Elland Road career.

Gudmundsson will certainly be feeling the heat if the Frenchman performs well during his time out.

But Farke is a huge fan of the Swede's, stating in a press conference last October: "He’s been excellent so far. Credit to his character. He always comes back stronger and delivers top performances.”

So, perhaps this time he will bounce back stronger, but the pressure is on for both Bard and Gudmundsson - in a positive way for Leeds.

Why Brenden Aaronson, Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha need to perform this season

Brenden Aaronson has signed a new contract with Leeds and perhaps reasoning behind that was to protect his value.

If that contract was not signed, he would have been able to leave on a free at the end of the season.

The American has often struggled to make a consistent impression, and with those wide forward areas now stacked with talent, Aaronson faces a tough battle.

Harry Wilson, Jean-Matteo Bahoya, Dan James and Noah Okafor are all competing for those roles.

And the latter of those will also be under similar pressure to Aaronson.

Last season, Okafor looked to be a success in LS11 scoring eight Premier League goals in 28 appearances, with only 19 of them starts.

The Swiss international's fitness has often come under scrutiny, though, and pressure will be rising on him to prove he can play a more prominent role over a full season.

Additionally, Lukas Nmecha could be fighting for his future this season, with Leeds already in the market for another striker.

The German has been handed a reprieve with Farke unable to get a new number nine through the door.

But that could all change in January or next summer, with Nmecha potentially dropping down the pecking order with poor performances.
