What you need to know as Leeds United eye Amadou Kone transfer

Leeds United have seemingly got Amadou Kone on their radar again in the summer transfer window.

The Whites are being extremely ambitious in the transfer market as they aim to improve on last season's 14th-place finish.

Harry Wilson was the first signing in the building, arriving on a free transfer after his contract with Fulham expired.

Leeds then announced the £34million signing of Bosnia-Herzegovina international Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo.

A deal to sign James Trafford from Manchester City is also close to completion to solve their goalkeeping issues.

But Leeds are not done yet, and more business is expected before the close of the window.

Leeds United face English competition for Amadou Kone

Last year, MOT Leeds News covered how Leeds wanted to sign Kone from Reims.

However, despite those links, Kone opted to swap France for Saudi Pro League side NEOM.

The defensive-minded midfielder scored two goals and provided one assist in a strong debut campaign out in Saudi Arabia.

As such, prominent transfer journalist Santi Aouna wrote for Foot Mercato that Leeds are now again interested in signing Kone.

However, Aouna writes that Leeds are not the only interested team in signing Kone, who has one appearance for Ivory Coast's Under-23 side.

West Ham United, relegated from the Premier League last term, said to be interested as they look to put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

Serie A side Atalanta are also though to be an admirer or Kone's, who could be set for a return to European football.

What else do Leeds United want this summer?

Leeds have moved to address some pressing issues in the summer transfer window.

Goalkeeper was obviously a huge issue, with Lucas Perri failing to impress and Karl Darlow moving to Manchester United.

Trafford's impending arrival solves that issue in the main, though Leeds will likely still be in the hunt to sign a back-up goalie.

Left-back cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson would be an added bonus, while another forward is being sought.

Leeds had been linked to Levante striker Carlos Espi before his surprise switch to Real Madrid.

Moves for Southampton midielder Shea Charles and free agent Julian Brandt, who left Borussia Dortmund in the summer, are still in the works as well.
