What Leeds United fans need to know as Graham Smyth shares stance on Igor Paixao transfer
There have been rumblings that Leeds United could once more be looking at Igor Paixao.
Leeds were heavily interested in signing the Brazilian forward last summer when he was still at Feyenoord.
However, the 26-year-old ultimately decided to make the move to Ligue 1 with Marseille on a five-year contract.
But Marseille need to make player sales this summer due to issues with meeting UEFA's spending rules.
That has led to the rumour mill swirling that Leeds are once more pondering the idea of bringing Paixao to Elland Road this summer.
Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth was asked about the links on social media, and he has now shared what he understands about the situation.
How serious is Leeds United interest in Igor Paixao?
Earlier this month, MOT Leeds News covered reports of how Roma were looking at signing Paixao from Marseille.
As yet, nothing has materialised with Paixao's future and that has sparked suggestions that Paixao could once more be of interest to Daniel Farke.
Indeed, one supporter took to X to ask Smyth about the rumours that had been swirling around Leeds' interest in Paixao.
Smyth replied to say: "You can't rule it out entirely because they really, really liked him last summer.
"But they're not in for him right now. Unlikely as it stands."
So, it looks as though Leeds are not actively in the hunt for Paixao, but with over a month of the transfer window left, there is still plenty of time for that to change.
What else do Leeds United need this summer?
Leeds have been embarking on a hugely ambitious transfer window this summer, and the Whites' hierarchy certainly needs applauding for that.
Harry Wilson has arrived on a free transfer from Fulham, while £34million was forked out to Sassuolo for Bosnian centre-back Tarik Muharemovic.
Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is reportedly on the cusp of making the move to Elland Road, too, in what would be a fantastic coup.
Elsewhere, Leeds are still looking to sign attacking midfielder Julian Brandt after he departed Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract.
Southampton midfielder Shea Charles is also still on the radar, though there has not yet been a breakthrough in that stand-off.
It has been reported that Leeds still want to add cover at left-back, centre-back, and in the forward areas too.
