Leeds United have the last laugh after Igor Paixao transfer latest
Leeds tried to sign Igor Paixao last summer but he ultimately chose to join Marseille.
The Whites reportedly had a £30.3million offer accepted by Feyenoord, but he was convinced by the allure of Champions League football.
The Whites ended up with Noah Okafor, as Daniel Farke found an alternative for the 25-year-old.
The winger notched eight goals and three assists in all competitions, and Paixao also had a successful season, with 12 goals and seven assists.
Now, it appears that Leeds are going to get the last laugh on the former Elland Road target.
What has been said about Igor Paixao's future?
Paixao's future at Marseille looks uncertain, and he could be on the chopping block.
A report from Gazzetta dello Sport on 5 June claims that the French side need to raise money to avoid being kicked out of European football, and the Brazilian look set to exit.
It states that he is likely to depart, with AS Roma interested in a deal for the 25-year-old that would cost around the £30m mark.
Why Paixao would have been better signing for Leeds
If he had signed for Leeds, he would not have been in a situation where he could leave just a year after signing.
If he was, it would have been to leave to a top club and follow a similar path to his compatriot, Raphinha, who went to Barcelona and is still adored by Whites fans.
It would not have been because the club have financial issues and are willing to sell him to resolve their problems.
He may be wondering whether he made the right call, as while European football is obviously where every player dreams of making their mark, he may be unsettled very shortly.
Roma is a very good landing spot if the move works out, as they have Champions League football next season.
However, England may have worked out better for his World Cup chances rather than being farmed out to another club after one season in France.
He was overlooked by Carlo Ancelotti, but if he had the same numbers in the Premier League, where more eyes are on him, he may have been handed an opportunity.
It looks as though the Peacocks will not be the ones who regret the failed transfer saga.
