How much money Leeds United will save as Maximillian Wober contract officially terminated

Leeds United and Maximiliian Wober have come to the agreement to terminate his contract.

The Austrian defender is now free to join another club with Schalke the reported front-runners.

Wober has struggled to make an impression at Elland Road since his 2023 transfer, and he had failed to live up to his £10million price.

After a poor loan spell at Werder Bremen last season, the Whites have decided to remove him from their books completely.

The move means that no transfer fee will arrive for the central defender.

But, there are financial benefits behind the move as well. It frees up money on the wage bill for the Elland Road side and here is how much.

How much was Maximillian Wober earning at Leeds United?

Wober only had one-year left on his contract, and after picking up a serious injury last season on loan, it was always going to be a struggle to get a fee for the 28-year-old.

And that reality has seemingly hit home with MOT Leeds News relaying updates on Wober's reported switch to Schalke.

As previously stated, no transfer fee will land on the desks of Elland Road officials, but plenty will be saved on wages following official confirmation of the agreement.

According to Capology, the Austrian was on £35,000 a week.

With around 11 months remaining until Wober's contract would expire on 30 June, 2027, that means the Whites will be saving roughly £1.54m on his wages.

That figure is no small number and the removal of it from the books may allow them to utilise it for a new signing.

Daniel Farke is reportedly still eyeing three key positions, and even these minimal gains could prove beneficial.

Where did Wober rank among Leeds' top earners?

Across the whole squad for the 2026-2027 season, before his contract was terminated, Wober ranked joint-20th.

The centre-back was on the same wages as both Lukas Nmecha and James Justin.

Notable figures below the defender include Jayden Bogle, with Capology having him on £30,000 per week.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ao Tanaka is earning £25,000, according to the football salary database.

Leeds could also see a further boost on the wage bill amid Largie Ramazani's rumoured exit.

Ramazani was not included in Leeds' pre-season squad, and his departure frees up £17,000 per week on the bill.
