How much Leeds United will have to pay to sign Orlando Gill as release clause revealed

Leeds United are in the market for a back-up goalkeeper with Paraguayan Orlando Gill recently emerging as an option.

The arrival of James Trafford has set the wheels in motion in the goalkeeping department at Elland Road.

Lucas Perri is expected to leave on loan to join Torino, leaving Daniel Farke's side light between the sticks.

Alex Cairns is unlikely to be called upon, seeing as he has not made a competitive appearance over the last two years.

After spending big on Trafford, in a deal worth £40million plus add-ons, the LS11 outfit will not want to fork a significant outlay on a back-up.

And Gill could represent value for money amid news of a release clause in his contract with San Lorenzo.

How much is Orlando Gill's release clause as Leeds circle?

Reports out of Paraguay had revealed that Leeds made an offer for Gill as they look to address their goalkeeping options.

At the time it was not known how much that offer included, but now we can get a rough idea of what it did not exceed.

The Whites are not alone in their interest for Gill, though, as it has emerged that Lille have also tabled an offer.

And as Tribuna report, that offer was also below San Lorenzo's asking price, which is set at Gill's release clause.

According to the information shared, that clause is set at £6.8m, which in the grand scheme of things is a relatively affordable price.

And that could be completely covered by Perri, should he perform well in the Serie A as Perri's loan is said to include an £11.9m option to buy.

If Leeds like the look of Gill as the interest suggests, they may need to move quick.

An escalation in interest from a more prestigious French side is mooted as they closely monitor the situation.

The one concern Leeds may have over Gill transfer

When you are a back-up goalkeeper, you need to be a reliable shot-stopper that the manager can turn to.

Should the number one get injured or suspended, you will have to step and make yourself available for as long as needed but Gill may prove to be a problem there.

The Paraguayan has shown to have a little bit of a temper. That was first on display when he threw a football at Kylian Mbappe at the World Cup, after the Frenchman refused to shake his hand.

In a heated derby game between San Lorenzo and Huracan, Gill was sent off for headbutting an opposition player.

It is not exactly the character clubs may be looking for in the market.
