Widell Zetterstrom 'emotional' amid Leeds links - but is he better option than Zion Suzuki?

Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom has spoken out for the first time on links with Leeds United.

Widell Zetterstrom caught the eye for Derby in the Championship last season and has done likewise for Sweden at the World Cup.

The 27-year-old came into the side for Sweden's 1-1 draw with Japan in their final group match and then started the last-32 tie with France.

Graham Potter's men lost that game 3-0 on Tuesday night, but Widell Zetterstrom came out of the game with his head held high.

Team-mate Lucas Bergvall said the keeper had an "incredibly good match" at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

That perhaps explains the ongoing links with a switch to Elland Road, which he has now commented on.

What has Jacob Widell Zetterstrom said about Leeds talk?

Leeds are said to have made an approach to sign Widell Zetterstrom, but they are not alone in wanting him.

Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth are also said to be interested, as are Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Asked specifically about that interest by Fotbolltransfers, Widell Zetterstrom said: "I don't usually focus on rumours too much.

"I've been in this bubble now and been fully focused on the national team, and now I feel like I should take a few days to relax."

Speaking to SVT Sport, meanwhile, he said: “That [speculation is] not something I really think about. Right now, I’m disappointed that we lost and emotional that we’re out."

But Widell Zetterstrom is not the only goalkeeper Leeds have been linked with of late in their search of a likely back-up to Karl Darlow.

Why Widell Zetterstrom may be better option than Zion Suzuki

Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is also said to be high on Leeds' list of transfer targets.

However, Suzuki would likely cost Leeds £25million, which is substantially move than Widell Zetterstrom.

This is due to the Derby man being out of contract at Pride Park in a year's time.

And in truth, there is very little between the pair when it comes to their statistics, albeit it must be factored in they play in different leagues.

Widell Zetterstrom boasts a save percentage of 69 per cent, compared to 67 per cent for Suzuki.

They have clean sheet rates of 33 per cent and 30 per cent respectively, which again is almost identical.

Both players' stock have risen at the World Cup, but it may well be that going for the cheaper option of the two makes sense if it is a choice between them.
