Zion Suzuki red tape that could collapse Leeds United transfer before it's started
Zion Suzuki is the name on everybody's lips around Leeds United right now.
The Japanese international has become a certified star at the World Cup, pulling off several magnificent saves.
That continued as Japan crashed out of the World Cup with a 2-1 defeat against Brazil, with his save against Vinicius Junior catching attention.
Leeds have since made their move, if reports from Italy are to be believed, with Parma standing strong on their valuation.
It's said that Suzuki would cost over £25million this summer.
But, just as Leeds fans started to get excited, Karl Darlow may be set to play a bigger role in the transfer than anyone thought.
Why Leeds fans may need to hold their horses with Zion Suzuki
Just as everyone started to get excited, they may have been brought back down to earth.
Leeds were said to be pushing ahead to sign Suzuki, as they didn't want to waste the position of being frontrunners.
But now, that could all change.
Zinny Boswell of Sky Sports has reported that while the Whites remain interested in Suzuki, they're not actively pursuing a deal yet.
That's because they're waiting for Darlow to make a decision on his contract, given that he is now officially a free agent.
The wait over Darlow is said to be affecting plans.
Leeds stuck in a goalkeeping mess
For years now, the Whites haven't had any sort of stability in their goalkeeping department.
Just when you thought it was solved with the £15m signing of Lucas Perri last season, he was dropped for consistent mistakes.
With Illan Meslier also leaving, it may be time for Daniel Farke and Leeds to throw money at the issue again.
Suzuki was sensational at the World Cup, and there isn't smoke without fire with these consistent links at home and abroad.
Many believe that Darlow is good enough to keep the number one shirt, though, given his moments of brilliance last season.
This isn't any closer to a resolution right now, and everything looks as though it will depend on what Darlow decides to do next.
At least Leeds have their contingency plans in place.
