Why Marseille have a fresh reason to sell Igor Paixao to Leeds as new clause details emerge
Igor Paixao could be Marseille's solution to their ongoing troubles as Leeds eye a move.
The Whites have been credited with tracking the Brazilian winger this summer, although that is all the links have been.
Paixao was subject to concrete interest last summer, before he moved from Feyenoord to the French outfit.
However, financial issues at the Velodrome have opened the door to an exit just one year on.
With Leeds likely to be keeping an eye on developments at Marseille as the summer rubmles.
And due to a clause inserted in Paixao's deal, he may very well provide more help than originally imagined.
What clause does Igor Paixao have in his Marseille deal?
Feyenoord had the foresight to include a sell-on clause in their sale of Paixao.
And with Marseille needing money in order to conduct business, that could be a detriment as they would not receive the whole portion of Paixao's sale.
However, according to Foot Marseille, the Eredivisie side's sell-on clause is actually worth less than what was previously thought.
They share that while there have been reports that Feyenoord would receive 30 per cent of a future sale, the actual return is 10 per cent.
For Leeds, that is a boost as Marseille is unable to register players due to Ligue 1 restrictions.
Now, seemingly a transfer for the Brazilian would land the southcoast French side a bigger sum than previously imagined, one that could ease their concerns.
It is said a sale could provide a "significant capital gain" amid their ongoing troubles.
The report once again also shares Paixao's future remains uncertain with Leeds and Aston Villa circling.
However, the price is still quite steep with owner Frank McCourt setting a £42.7million tag on Paixao.
Marseille's transfer business is not going as planned and why Leeds can swoop in
Ideally, Marseille would prefer to keep Paixao and sell off other fringe players in their squad.
But that is not going to plan at all.
A transfer for Nayef Aguerd to Real Sociedad collapsed at the final hurdle, despite him undergoing a medical.
Additionally, with Marseille hoping to hijack Torino's move for Lucas Perri, they will need to recoup funds somewhere to complete that deal.
All in all, with the constant updates out of the Velodrome, the one-time Champions League winners are going through dire straits and Paixao seems like the easiest solution.
