How Leeds look destined for one transfer success story between Rafael Leao and Igor Paixao
Leeds United could soon get a transfer breakthrough for one of Rafael Leao or Igor Paixao.
The Whites are keen to add another attacker to their ranks this summer, with a specific want for someone who can play on the wing and centrally.
Leao and Paixao have both emerged as targets recently, with Paraag Marathe and Co. hopeful of bringing Daniel Farke new additions for the end of the window.
It's not known how much the club are willing to spend after the £40million transfer of James Trafford, as both linked players would cost a fair amount.
Ideally, they would have liked to have brought Julian Brandt to Elland Road for free, but the versatile forward snubbed a move to LS11 for Ajax instead.
Now, attention has turned to Leao and Paixao as Leeds look to bring Farke one more big-name forward before the deadline.
The club that can boost Leeds for one of Rafael Leao or Igor Paixao
Leeds are still too short of Marseille's valuation of Paixao, though the Whites have an advantage in knowing that the French side need to raise sales.
The Ligue 1 outfit need around £128million in sales before June of 2027 to stay compliant with French regulations, but they won't budge on their asking price of £42.5m for their Brazilian.
Leeds are said to be ready to pay around £30m, and a compromise will need to be reached, but another issue is the several clubs that are interested.
The same can be said in their pursuit of Leao, who is attracting major interest across Europe, with AC Milan open to selling the Portugal international this summer.
However, Leeds have been inadvertently boosted by 26-time Super Lig champions Galatasaray, who would also like to sign one of the two, according to Turkish journalist Erdem Acikgoz.
It's said that if they fail in their attempts to sign Leao, they could turn their attention to Paixao.
Leeds seem more interested in Paixao than Leao at this stage, but if a move for one fails because Galatasaray move in front, a better opportunity for the other may become available.
Who would cost more: Leao or Pixao?
It has been suggested that Leeds may be able to move forward more smoothly in talks for Paixao due to Marseille's publicly documented financial issues.
That doesn't mean an agreement will be reached for the 26-year-old, who keeps scoring for the French side this pre-season.
But Marseille's £42.5m valuation of the left-winger falls near the minimum that AC Milan would consider to sell Leao for, with the Italian giants said to be wanting up to £52m for the forward.
It's clear who would be more of a marquee addition, but Paixao is understandably in Leeds' thoughts a little bit more out of the pair.
