Why Leeds United's Shea Charles chase isn't over despite £34m Tarik Muharemovic investment
Leeds United still want to sign Shea Charles despite a big-money advancement for Tarik Muharemovic.
The Whites have made major progress in their move to sign Sassuolo's Muharemovic, with an agreement now reached between the relevant parties.
The defender is now set to travel to undergo his medical ahead of a reported £34million move to Elland Road, with Juventus set to get 50 per cent of the transfer fee.
Daniel Farke has been keen to sign a new centre-back ever since Pascal Struijk's £18m package deal transfer to Brighton, as his wish is close to coming true.
Paraag Marathe did, however, stress the importance of the club being careful with transfers this summer, admitting the free agent market will be important again, with Harry Wilson a demonstration of this.
Though Leeds would be spending big money on Muharemovic, their attempts to sign Charles are reportedly not over just yet.
The latest on Shea Charles to Leeds amid Tarik Muharemovic agreement
MOT Leeds News has already reported that Muharemovic is ready to travel to Leeds to finalise his £34m move to the Whites.
The centre-back caught the attention of Farke and Co. as well as other European clubs this summer after impressing for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup.
The 23-year-old is set to sign a five-year deal in LS11, on a reported £55,000 per-week wage.
The Daily Mail have reported that fellow Premier League sides Sunderland and Bournemouth were both interested in Muharemovic, but Leeds have now reached a provisional agreement first.
It is also reported that Leeds remain in talks with Southampton for Charles, who they've already made multiple bids for.
Leeds have sent three bids to Southampton for their midfielder, but are yet to meet their £30m asking price.
There is hope at Elland Road that a breakthrough can be found, with financial hurdles clearly not an issue, despite the agreement for Muharemovic.
The other positions Leeds want to upgrade
Leeds still want another centre-back after the signing of Muharemovic, as a centre-half was always on Farke's list before Struijk's exit.
Karl Darlow's departure has now been confirmed, with the Whites now hopeful of signing a new goalkeeper.
Parma's shot-stopper Zion Suzuki has been heavily linked with a move to the Peacocks.
A left-back, attacking midfielder and striker are the three other priorities that Leeds have.
This means that after Wilson, Muharemovic and possibly Charles, Leeds could finish the window with eight new signings, if everything goes to plan.
