Why Leeds United fans would adore Champions League-leading talent Petar Sucic

Petar Sucic would bring some serious European pedigree to Leeds United.

Leeds will be hoping to enjoy a strong second-half of the summer transfer window, as their recruitment drive begins to kick into gear.

Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic are both statement signings by the Whites, and further additions are no doubt expected at Elland Road.

Sucic's name has cropped up in Leeds transfer circles recently, with the 22-year-old midfielder fresh off the back of an excellent debut season for Inter Milan.

The Croatian international only joined the Serie A giants from Dinamo Zagreb last summer, but would make 54 appearances in all competitions for Inter, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

During his time in Italy and Croatia, Sucic has racked up plenty of Champions League experience, and he's not looked out of place at that level whatsoever.

However, Inter don't appear to be overly keen on selling their young midfielder, and that's very understandable.

Doing it in league football is one thing, but to be able to keep your game at a top level in a competition as strong as the Champions League is another challenge entirely.

Sucic has done that and more, as showcased by his underlying numbers in the competition in recent years.

As per FotMob, Sucic ranked in the top 3.2 percentile of all Champions League central midfielders for his 10.0 kilometres ran per 90 minutes in 2025-26.

Meanwhile, he also placed in the leading 4.4 per cent and seven per cent for his 12.9km covered and 15.0 sprints per game too.

Leeds fans will absolutely love that about Sucic, as to be a hit with the Elland Road faithful, you have to be willing to cover every blade of grass.

In addition to that, he also ranked among the very best in his position in last year's competition for his 2.06 chances created and 3.75 touches in the opposition box per game.

With Dinamo Zagreb in 2024-25, Sucic ranked in the top 1.8 percentile amongst his positional peers for his 0.68 goals per 90 average, as well as placing amongst the top-performing players for his 6.79 recoveries per game too.

So, despite his clearly excellent form being a major challenge to convince Inter to sell, what is Sucic's contract situation in Italy and does it hand Inter all the cards?

Inter may have already found Sucic's replacement

It remains to be seen whether a move to the Premier League so soon after signing for Inter would be something that appeals to Sucic.

Should it do so, then Leeds must do all they can to bring him to West Yorkshire, but as aforementioned, that's going to be far easier said than done.

Upon joining Inter in June last year, Sucic penned a five-year contract, thus ensuring he's tied down there until summer 2030.

However, Inter have made a headline addition in central midfield this summer, capturing the services of highly-rated Serbian international Aleksandar Stankovic from Club Brugge.

Stankovic, 20, scored nine goals and provided five assists in 55 total appearances for Brugge last season, and hasn't moved to Inter to simply sit on the bench.

So, with his signing, the Italians could be showing that they're planning for a future that doesn't include Sucic, but Leeds do have their work cut out when it comes to obtaining his services.
