The wait for Leeds United to announce James Trafford is creating a nervy atmosphere among fans.

Trafford's arrival would represent one of the bigger transfers in Leeds' modern history, and supporters are eager to see him come through the door.

The Englishman would solve a significant issue at Elland Road with the number one position.

So, it is no wonder that anticipation for a confirmation is continuing to grow each day

All signs do still point towards the signing being completed, and the reason for the delay has emerged.

What is holding up Leeds' announcement for James Trafford?

It has been a few days since widespread reports from reliable journalists such as David Ornstein shared news of Leeds' agreement for Trafford.

With that, supporters of the LS11 outfit have been hoping for a confirmation to arrive shortly after, a hope that has yet to be fulfilled.

That has led to those within the fanbase having some concerns over if the transfer has collapsed, asking Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth for clarity.

But according to the Leeds journalist, the current delay is simply due to details still being hashed out.

While it has been reported that a fee in the region of £40million plus add-ons has been agreed between the two sides, there is plenty more to discuss other than the price tag.

While Smyth has not confirmed the exact details, these could range from anything from payment structure to Manchester City or even details in Trafford's contract relating to bonuses, etc.

As stated by the journalist this is a "big deal" so Leeds will want to take their time and get every detail right rather than rush into the signing.

And with Trafford not set to return to training until around 8 August, the 49ers do have the luxury of ensuring things are perfectly set in stone over the agreement.

So, there is no reason for Leeds fans to panic, with an announcement surely to follow as soon as these hitches are overcome.

What happens next before Trafford can officially join Leeds

While there are still discussions going on about the deal to sign Trafford, there is another step that must take place and that is his medical.

So far there have been no reports as to the goalkeeper undertaking those tests.

Trafford is currently on holiday, but as seen with Leeds' move for Tarik Muharemovic, that is not an obstacle, if that has not taken place yet.

For now, patience must be afforded and it should not be too long before fans see the goalkeeper holding up the shirt on the official club channels.
