The obstacle Leeds need to overcome for James Trafford transfer - they did it with Muharemovic too

Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.

It will be a huge relief to Daniel Farke, who was in desperate need of sorting out a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Lucas Perri was only signed a year ago, but endured an error-strewn debut campaign and lost his place in the team to Karl Darlow.

However, Darlow then left to join fierce rivals Manchester United, which followed Illan Meslier leaving on a free transfer.

That left only Perri and emergency back-up Alex Cairns as senior options for Farke, and a new goalkeeper became a huge priority.

And one potential obstacle to getting a deal over the line for Trafford immently should be easily solved by Leeds.

James Trafford status should be no problem for Leeds transfer

MOT Leeds News covered reports of all the financial details behind Leeds' move for Man City ace Trafford.

The Whites are expected to pay an inital £40million for Trafford, with bonuses included as part of the deal.

The deal is now close to being finalised, in a tranfer that represents quite the coup for Leeds considering the interest in his services.

One user asked Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth on X if the fact Trafford being on holiday will pose an issue for his medical.

Trafford is currently on a break having been part of England's squad for the World Cup.

However, Smyth said the obstacle should be no problem, and flagged it was the same scenario for Tarik Muharemovic when he joined from Sassuolo.

Smyth wrote: "Muharemovic was on holiday too. Flew in, medical, signed and flew back out to resume holiday. That won't be an issue."

It all appears as though things are heading towards a positive conclusion.

What else are Leeds targeting in the transfer window?

On the surface, Leeds are having a very good transfer window, concluding deals in areas that needed strengthing.

Football isn't played on paper, but Harry Wilson adds proven Premier League quality, and Muharemovic is a player with high potential, and Trafford is an England international.

Leeds are still hopeful of adding Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, while Julian Brandt is view as a "market opportunity" and patience will be shown on that one.

The Whites also want a new forward, and Burnley's Zion Flemming and Levante's Carlos Espi are reported to be top targets.

With all of these names floating around, this window could only continue to get better at Elland Road.
