Why Leeds now have green light for Michael Zetterer transfer as agreement reached
Leeds United look set to have a clear run at completing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer.
The Whites have done some quietly excellent business in the transfer window this summer.
Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, Nico Elvedi, and James Trafford have all arrived to strengthen Daniel Farke's squad.
But even with the arrival of Trafford in a big-money deal from Manchester City, Leeds are still short of goalkeeper options.
Lucas Perri is still at the club but is widely expected to leave, with both Torino and Marseille having been heavily linked.
However, news elsewhere on Thursday means that 31-year-old Zetterer would be about to boost Farke's depth in goal.
What is the latest with Leeds United and Michael Zetterer?
Zetterer's move to Elland Road has been a little bit of saga, with uncertainty over whether it was actually happening.
But Zetterer's recent trip to Leeds has seemingly sealed the move, with just a few pieces needed to get the deal over the line.
Well, now, one of those pieces has seemingly taken place after an update from Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg took to X on Thursday to report that Frankfurt have reached an agreement with Freiburg to sign Noah Atubolu.
He reported that it will be loan deal with an obligation to buy for around £11.1million.
That deal was said to be key to unlocking Leeds' move for Zetterer, and now those terms have been agreed it looks like the Whites have a clear run to get transfer signed and sealed.
What else do Leeds United want in the final days of the window?
Time is now fast running out for clubs to complete their final bits of business in the transfer window.
The window slams shut for Premier League clubs at 11pm on Tuesday, 1 September, meaning we are into the crucial final days to do business.
Leeds are still in the market for further late reinforcements, with a striker and winger thought to be high on Farke's wish list.
Another left-back to provide cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson is also on Leeds' radar in the final days of the window.
Zetterer looks to have taken a step closer, then it will be interesting to see what else Leeds can get done.
