Shea Charles could now be closer than ever to signing for Leeds United.

After weeks of back and forth, Daniel Farke continues to pursue the central midfielder for his squad.

Leeds have seen two bids rejected for Charles, the latest of those going beyond £23million to the Saints.

With competition now growing in the Premier League, those at Elland Road have pushed even harder.

Leeds have already signed Harry Wilson in their first marquee transfer of the summer, but more is desperately needed.

With money ready to be spent by the 49ers Enterprises, the Whites are finally pushing to bolster their squad.

What have Leeds United done with Shea Charles?

Despite two rejected bids and competition arriving, that hasn't deterred anyone in LS11.

The Daily Mail has now reported that Leeds held positive talks over a compromise on Friday with Southampton, and hope to know in the next 48 hours if they will sign Charles.

Most importantly, Charles wants to join Leeds.

His focus is solely on the Whites, not Crystal Palace and Fulham, so breaking the Saints down should be the final hurdle.

Leeds need more in defence, a new goalkeeper and another striker, so getting this done soon would certainly help.

Shea Charles makes more sense than you think

Versatility is key in modern football, and Leeds are the perfect example of that.

Switching to a five-at-the-back last season, they only had four senior central defenders, meaning James Justin filled in perfectly at times.

On top of that, Ethan Ampadu has also featured there regularly.

Ironically, Charles actually made his Premier League debut under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City in defence.

If one of the world's greatest ever managers was comfortable playing him there, the Northern Irishman offers great depth to Farke.

Of course, his priority is central midfield, but with that area also stacked with options, Charles can offer Leeds more than just one standard role.

Some nerves are kicking around the transfer activity in LS11, but if Charles gets done, hopefully it starts a flurry of signings.

Leeds and Farke need some key additions, and they need them now.
