Leeds United's pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi has taken a step forward.

The centre-back has constantly been linked with Elland Road side, given his connection to Daniel Farke.

He played 34 times under the Whites boss, in their time together at Borussia-Park.

It seems like the Peacocks are finally making their move for the 73-cap Switzerland international to bolster their defensive options.

The LS11 side are understood to be preparing an offer for the veteran, to reunite him with his former manager.

Now an update has emerged which suggests that the transfer has advanced further than originally thought.

What is the latest on Nico Elvedi and Leeds?

Elvedi's signature looks set to be imminent at Leeds, with the latest being very encouraging.

Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg reported on Thursday that the Whites are set to make an offer, with personal terms already agreed.

It stated that the player is very open to the Premier League, and the German club are ready to sell.

The Athletic later revealed that sources at both clubs indicated confidence that the deal will happen this week.

That suggests that he will be a Peacocks player sooner rather than later, and supporters will not have to wait that long to see him in the White shirt.

Why Elvedi will back himself to succeed at Leeds

Elvedi has plenty of reasons to believe that he can settle quickly in Yorkshire, and get adapted to the physicality and mental aspect of the English game.

Obviously, his experience of already working under Farke will come in handy.

He also has an international teammate in the ranks, with Noah Okafor also representing the Swiss national team, who he has played alongside 14 times.

Elvedi has plenty of experience at the top-level of the game, with 318 appearances in the Bundesliga and 15 in the Champions League.

His signature would indicate a show of ambition from Farke and Co, as he has all the attributes to succeed in English football, given his spell in some of the best competitions.

It would leave the Whites' defence in a brilliant position for the 2026-27 campaign, and then the focus can switch to other areas of the squad.
