Leeds United agree contract with Nico Elvedi as next steps for transfer revealed

Florian Plettenberg has reported that Elvedi has agreed on a contract until 2029 in West Yorkshire.

After that, Leeds are now preparing an official offer to Monchengladbach, who are open to their captain's sale.

Elvedi himself is said to be "very open" for a switch to England and the Premier League, with movement expected.

With three weeks to go until the deadline, expect this one to get done.

Why this transfer makes perfect sense for Leeds

It's no secret now that Sebastiaan Bornauw wants to leave Leeds.

The Belgian started again in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United in Dublin on Wednesday, and that could be his final minutes in white.

Hamburg are said to be confident of a deal to sign Bornauw this week, so this news makes perfect sense.

Farke has stuck to his five-back formation in pre-season, so if Bornauw left, James Justin would be his only cover.

That isn't enough, given he covers both full backs, too.

So, Elvedi would come in as a fourth senior centre-back option, with possibly another needed on top of that.

Now it's all about finding a reasonable fee for both Leeds and Monchengladbach to finalise this transfer.

Joe Gelhardt is leaving for a package worth £6.5million, so with his sky-high wages also off the books alongside Bornauw, the money is there to use.

Leeds have been smart by finally offloading their deadwood permanently this summer, meaning their budget is stretching further.
