Path clear for Leeds United to complete Tarik Muharemovic transfer as contract details emerge
Leeds United are pushing hard to complete a deal for Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic.
The Bosnian defender has emerged as a primary transfer target as Leeds look to bolster their centre-back options.
Leeds are looking a little light in defence after Pascal Struijk was sold to Brighton earlier in the transfer window.
The Whites wanted Struijk to remain at Elland Road, but with just a year left on his deal had to cash in after it became clear he wanted a new challenge.
That left just Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol, and Sebastiaan Bornauw as options, with Daniel Farke having favoured a three-man defence for much of last term.
Muharemovic is a man in demand, but details have now emerged about what Leeds are planning to offer to land him.
Leeds ready to put contract proposal to Muharemovic
The competition for Muharemovic is set to be fierce, with Leeds preparing for a possible auction to land the 23-year-old.
Premier League rivals Sunderland and Bournemouth, both of whom can offer European football, are said to be in the race.
It has been suggested Leeds are ready to offer around £30million, though Juventus - who retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause - are hoping to drive Sassuolo's price up to around £34m.
Tuttosport has now reported that the "path is clear" for Leeds to push ahead in their bid to sign Muharemovic.
The Italian outlet says that Leeds are ready to offer Muharemovic a contract until 2031 worth approximately £2.9m per year, which is around £55,000-a-week.
Leeds ready to push on with transfer business
Leeds have been active in terms of transfer targets this window, but getting deals over the line has been a little slower.
Harry Wilson has arrived on a free transfer from Fulham, in a shrewd piece of business from the Whites.
Southampton midfielder Shea Charles has been heavily linked, though progress with the Saints has been sluggish and the likes of Fulham and Crystal Palace are trying to muscle into the race.
An ambitious move for free agent Julian Brandt has been mooted, while Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has also been heavily mentioned as a player of interest.
Either way, they're really stepping on the gas now.
