Michael Zetterer mystery deepens after supposed Leeds medical as his whereabouts emerge
Michael Zetterer was reported to be in England over the weekend to undergo a medical with Leeds United.
It had been claimed that the Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper was having a medical with Leeds on Saturday after missing training with the Bundesliga club.
With Lucas Perri widely expected to join Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow in leaving Elland Road this summer, Daniel Farke needs to sign a new goalkeeper to serve as a back-up option for James Trafford.
And despite it looks like Zetterer, 31, was going to be that signing over the weekend, the news on Mondsay morning suggets that isn't the case.
This has been a topsy-turvy transfer saga.
But the latest twist is probably the most puzzling of all.
Why Michael Zetterer's future is frying brains at Leeds
Last week, after Zetterer was first linked with a move to Leeds, the German goalkeeper's agent came out to say that the ex-Werder Bremen star was going nowhere.
He only joined Frankfurt last year and played 28 times for them in all competitions.
And, as made public by agent Nico Pellatz, a move away from Frankfurt is "out of the question" for Zetterer.
Now, after the reports that he'd been in England to join Leeds on a loan-to-buy basis, Absolut Fussball journalist Christopher Michel reports that Zetterer is training again with Frankfurt.
"Zetterer? He's back in training. After there was some movement over the weekend, things are quiet again for now," he said on X on Monday morning.
What's happened to the deal?
This is the big question, but Michel's update suggests that the transfer is currently dead in the water.
Zetterer may well have been in England to sign for Leeds at the weekend, but there was never an agreement reached between the Whites and Frankfurt.
It's possible that he was going to join but something happened at either club that stopped the deal from progressing.
Maybe Perri is now going to stay at Leeds, or maybe Frankfurt got cold feet over letting their most-used goalkeeper from last season leave.
Or maybe even Zetterer changed his mind again
Or maybe he wasn't in England at all!
