Michael Zetterer is expected to join Leeds United in a loan-to-buy deal from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Even though the 31-year-old goalkeeper's agent has spoken out this week to rubbish reports that a move to Leeds is taking place, news out of Germany now suggests that the public denial isn't the full story.

While Leeds and Frankfurt haven't yet agreed a deal between them, a new update suggests terms could be done within the next few days.

Zetterer joined Frankfurt from Werder Bremen last summer and played 28 times in total for them last season, keeping seven clean sheets.

He was left on the bench for Frankfurt's German Cup win over St Tonis on Friday and now seems to have left the Bundesliga club's dressing room completely.

What's the state of play of Michael Zetterer's move to Leeds?

German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau now claims that while the "situation remians tenuous", a "final decision is expected in the coming days" for Zetterer to join Leeds.

A loan deal with an option-to-buy clause is considered the most likely agreement between the two clubs, while Zetterer "was reportedly not in the Eintracht Frankfurt locker room [on Saturday] as usual".

Speaking to BILD earlier this week, the shot-stopper's agent Nico Pellatz strongly denied that his client is leaving Frankfurt.

"We are very surprised by reports that Michael Zetterer is on the verge of a transfer," he said.

"These are simply not true. Michael and his family are very happy in Frankfurt. A move is currently out of the question for him."

That, however, doesn't seem to be the case any more.

Why did Zetterer's agent say that despite the fact an agreement is close?

Things change fast in football.

It's very much possible that Zetterer, at the time his agent spoke out, didn't want to leave Frankfurt.

Since then, it's possible that his club have told him that they need to sell him or that they're signing a new goalkeeper, which might have swayed his thoughts.

So Zetterer's agent, at the time of speaking, might have been correct. But the developments since have kind of made him look a bit silly.

Leeds do look as though they're about to sign Zetterer in the coming days.

And that opens up the chance for Lucas Perri to finally leave Elland Road.
