Lucas Perri's move from Leeds United to Torino may have taken a twist amid a fresh approach from elsewhere.

The 28-year-old is nailed on to leave Elland Road this summer, even if only on an initial loan basis.

That is following last week's confirmation of James Trafford arriving from Manchester City in a big-money deal.

Torino have long been considered the favourites to sign Perri, though the move has dragged on longer than expected.

And it now appears Perri's move to Torino may not be as clear-cut as it previously looked.

That is amid a new update that has been shared on Wednesday.

Lucas Perri may have something to think about as Leeds exit nears

There is no question Perri will be leaving Elland Road over the next three weeks.

The only question now is where he will end up.

Perri's medical with Torino was delayed due to a minor injury issue, but everything is otherwise said to be in place.

However, Matteo Moretto reported via X on Wednesday that Marseille have now made an enquiry over Perri in the last few hours.

The Marca journalist adds that the former Brazil Under-23s international is "very close to Torino", but nothing has yet been formally signed.

And this late interest from Marseille could make things very interesting indeed.

Why Marseille move may make more sense for Perri

It was reported late last month that multiple clubs had made an approach for Perri.

However, it was not known exactly who those clubs were beyond Torino.

Torino finished mid-table in Serie A last season, whereas Marseille were fifth in Ligue 1.

That means Marseille will be competing in the Europa League this coming campaign.

On the face of it, that may be too much of a lure for Perri.

The decision, you would imagine, will come down to the player himself.

Leeds seems to have been happy to agree a loan deal with an obligation to buy with Torino.

As long as that is matched, it does not matter to Leeds where their back-up keeper ends up.
