How much Torino can sign Lucas Perri for as Leeds United exit terms in place

Torino are on the verge of completing a deal for Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri.

After a hugely underwhelming debut season at Leeds, Perri was always expected to depart Elland Road this summer.

The 28-year-old Brazilian will feel that with his experience prior to joining the Whites, he still can be a number one in a top European league.

Serie A side Torino would seem to agree in that respect, and have been trying to close a deal for Perri for weeks.

With James Trafford now in place at Elland Road, and Alex Cairns proving in pre-season that he's a capable deputy, Perri doesn't seem to have a place in Daniel Farke's thinking any longer.

And if everything goes to plan, he'll be a Torino player in the coming hours.

Perri's move to Torino had recently been put on hold, after he picked up a knock that delayed his ability to complete a medical.

However, that now appears to no longer be an issue, and his move to Turin is now set to accelerate.

According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, Perri will arrive in Turin on Thursday and is expected to become Torino's new number one keeper.

It claims that lengthy negotiations have resulted in a package consisting of a one-year loan deal with the option to purchase him for £9.3million being agreed.

Perri will now undergo his medical inside the Stadio Olimpico, and is expected to do so in time to be involved in training with his new teammates on Friday.

Then the plan is to announce him to supporters ahead of Torino's Coppa Italia game against Carrarese on Saturday night.

But, if Torino don't decide to take up their purchase option, where would that leave Perri in terms of his Leeds contract status?

Upon signing from Lyon last summer, it was of course expected that Perri would become Leeds' number one shot-stopper moving forward.

After all, he'd enjoyed an excellent 2024-25 campaign with the French side, and had also played well during his time in Brazilian football with Botafogo.

Such was Leeds' confidence in him that they handed Perri a four-year contract, meaning he's tied down at Elland Road until the summer of 2029.

So, there would still be time for him to turn things around in West Yorkshire if he finds himself back here next summer, but it's perhaps best for both parties involved if Torino do indeed trigger their buy option.
