Leeds United are scouring the market for a new number two goalkeeper late in the window.

Daniel Farke has seriously upgraded his starting XI this summer, but his depth still has some holes.

James Trafford has become Leeds' new record transfer, signing for £45million from Manchester City.

The England international has enjoyed a superb start too, keeping two clean sheets in as many wins against Nottingham Forest.

But, with Lucas Perri heading to Torino on loan, a new number two is wanted at Elland Road.

While Michael Zetterer looked likely, Matthieu Epolo has emerged as a possible new target before 1 September.

Could Leeds sign Matthieu Epolo?

Currently at Standard Liege, the young goalkeeper is at a completely different stage of his career to Zetterer.

While the German has played Bundesliga football and in Europe, Epolo is only 21 and was a Belgian youth international, until he represented DR Congo at the World Cup.

Get Football News France has now reported that Leeds are considering whether to move for experience or youth in their goalkeeper hunt.

Should they go for the latter, Epolo is the name at the top of their list and would only cost £6.8million.

Leeds are a serious option for the Liege stopper, who also has interested from Marseille, although that may have cooled recently.

Lothar Matthaus has already told Leeds why they should sign Michael Zetterer with deal close

Michael Zetterer may have something to say about this

There were questions around the possibility of Zetterer joining Leeds.

But, Zetterer was said to have visited West Yorkshire over the weekend and was happy to make the move now.

Instead, Leeds may be looking at other options like Epolo.

Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed a deal to sign Noah Atubolu, who will likely become their number one instantly.

As that news broke, many believed it basically meant that Zetterer was bound for LS11, but this has come out of nowhere.

With only five days to go until the window slams shut, Farke needs to make up his mind sooner rather than later.

Both have been playing frequently, so would they want to throw that away for a number two role?

Younger players are more likely to accept that, so Epolo may quickly become the prime target at Elland Road.

Either way, it has to happen soon.
