Leeds United's long-term interest in Nico Elvedi is finally coming to a conclusion.

The Whites have ramped up their pursuit as they look to add another centre-back to their ranks.

The chase of the Swiss international is likely related to the exit of Sebastiaan Bornauw, who has been heavily linked with a transfer to Hamburg.

Elvedi is in the final year of his Borussia Monchengladbach deal, so the Bundesliga outfit will not want to lose him for nothing next season.

And while news of Elvedi and Leeds agreeing to a three-year contract has emerged, little else on what the deal could entail has.

Now, the cost of the transfer has come out as the LS11 outfit look to make their fourth signing of the summer.

What's the latest on Nico Elvedi to Leeds?

Elvedi and Leeds has been a story that refused to go away all summer and now it makes sense why.

The LS11 side were biding their time to strike as they awaited the outcome of his future in Germany amid his expiring contract.

With Elvedi in his final contract year, the Elland Road side will be hoping to strike quite an affordable deal for him.

And it seems that is something that looks likely to happen.

According to the print edition of the Daily Mail on 14 August, the fee for the 29-year-old is said to be around £8.2million.

Now, it is a waiting game for both sides to come to either an agreement or one party to compromise during talks.

Confidence on all sides points towards Elvedi joining Leeds, so it could just be a matter of time before the move is greenlit.

Elvedi is a player that Daniel Farke knows quite well, with the German managing him at the Foals during the 2022-2023 season.

Why Elvedi is a bargain transfer for Leeds

Every year transfer fees get more and more inflated, so the fact that a move around £8.2m is mooted is quite shrewd business.

Elvedi is an experienced centre-back with 73-caps for the Swiss national team since 2016.

Additionally, he has played 364 games for Borussia Monchengladbach since joining them in 2015.

That type of experience at a low fee is rare, with Elvedi at a solid age of 29 as well.

While Bornauw's transfer has ultimately failed to work out at Elland Road, the Whites look to be upgrading on him just a year after he arrived.
