Leeds United look at late Mateus Mane transfer as 'staggering' price revealed

Leeds United appear to be scrambling late in the market for new additions at Elland Road.

That has led them to Wolves' Mateus Mane, with 72 hours to go until the deadline in England.

Daniel Farke has made five signings so far, but is missing that elusive new attacker after the arrival of Harry Wilson.

Leeds and the 49ers promised big spending in the final third, but that has been miles from the case.

While the transfer business has been positive at Elland Road, there is a sense that the Whites are a couple of signings short.

How much would Mateus Mane cost Leeds?

Mane was the one shining light for Wolves as they were disastrously relegated from the Premier League.

Thrown in at the deep end at Molinuex, the young winger, who can also play upfront, was untouchable at times.

Now, Alan Nixon has reported via Patreon on Sunday that Leeds are looking very closely at Mane.

With only hours until the 1 September, though, the journalist states he could cost a similar fee to the "staggering" £40million also wanted for teammate, Fernando Lopez.

Lopez is wanted by Crystal Palace and Atalanta, with a very busy 72 hours likely at Wolves in the Championship.

Why Mateus Mane could be perfect Leeds signing

Big changes could be coming at Elland Road before Tuesday.

With Willy Gnonto seemingly on the verge of an exit to join Fiorentina, replacements are needed.

Leeds and the 49ers still have big money to spend, so replacing the Italian with Mane could make perfect sense.

While the price is high, Mane wouldn't be expected to start every week immediately in LS11, bringing that pressure down.

Noah Okafor and Brenden Aaronson have been rotating off the left, with Wilson off the right, meaning Mane can come in and out when needed to build a name for himself.

Of course, Wolves are highly unlikely to sell at this stage of the window, with Leeds maybe leaving it too late.

But, if they want him badly enough, the money may be too good to turn down in the Championship.
