Leeds United leave the door open for Paris Saint-Germain to seal £23.9m signing

Paris Saint-Germain look set to beat Leeds United to a deal to sign Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki this summer.

Leeds have been strongly linked with Suzuki for most of the transfer window as Daniel Farke searches for a new number-one goalkeeper.

However, with Manchester City's James Trafford closing in on a move to Elland Road, the need to sign Japan international Suzuki has lessened.

And, as a result, it means that Leeds have left the door open for PSG to swoop in and sign the New York-born 23-year-old for themselves.

Sky Sports Italy journalist Luca Bendoni reported via his personal X account on Sunday that PSG are now "advancing" in a deal to sign Suzuki after submitting a bid worth £23.9million, plus add-ons, for the Parma star.

Leeds no longer look like they'll be signing Suzuki, but there's been a hold-up in the deal to sign Trafford.

Why Leeds are yet to announce James Trafford's arrival

Leeds fans have been left feeling like they've been waiting all summer for Trafford's move to West Yorkshire to be finalised.

However, there's no need to worry just yet with MOT Leeds News reporting earlier on Sunday that Trafford is simply on holiday, which could be why he's not yet hooked up officially with the Whites.

Leeds have agreed to pay up to £45m to sign Trafford from City, who are also closing in on a replacement for the former Burnley goalkeeper with Geronimo Rulli set to join them from Marseille.

It's not a done deal until he's signed on the dotted line, though, and there'll no doubt be a bit of nervousness because a potential back-up plan in Suzuki is heading elsewhere.

What if the Trafford deal collapses?

Leeds fans are no doubt nervous about seeing this deal break down beause they've witnessed it all before with hijacks, failed medicals and changes of hearts.

While there's no reason to suggest this one will collapse, Farke and co will have other targets they can check out.

In July, TuttoJuve reported that Michele Di Gregorio is a potential option for Leeds to fill their void inbetween the sticks.

Napoli's Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has also been linked with the Yorkshire giants.

Leeds will have other options on their shortlist but for now, there'll be confidence behind the scenes at Elland Road that the Trafford deal is a foregone conclusion.

If not, they might end up in a bidding war with PSG for Suzuki.
