Why Vanja Milinkovic-Savic would bring rare selling point to Leeds United as price revealed
Vanja Milinkovic-Savic could be Leeds United's much-needed answer between the sticks.
Leeds have zero interest in coming out of this summer's transfer window without a new number one goalkeeper having been signed.
Indeed, with Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow gone and Lucas Perri likely to follow them out the door if a new shot-stopper joins, Daniel Farke will surely hope to see a breakthrough as soon as possible.
Milinkovic-Savic could be who Leeds turn to, with the 29-year-old Serbian international having just seen his loan move with Napoli turn permanent this summer due to a purchase obligation in his contract.
He's an experienced goalkeeper at Serie A level, but has also collected experience playing in Serbian, Polish and Belgian football respectively during his career.
And, if he is to call Elland Road his new home this summer, then he will be bringing some fairly unique and coveted traits to West Yorkshire.
Where Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has led Serie A goalkeepers for years
MOT Leeds News has covered reports emerging that Leeds could look to sign Milinkovic-Savic if they're unsuccessful in their pursuit of Zion Suzuki.
This transfer saga involving Suzuki is dragging on, and it may soon reach a point where Whites chiefs feel they need to abandon hopes of securing his signature and look elsewhere.
Milinkovic-Savic certainly wouldn't be a bad option to fall back on for Leeds, and in fact, he's consistently been one of Serie A's best-performing goalkeepers for a number of years now.
Strangely, however, no Serie A goalkeeper created more chances than Milinkovic-Savic's three last season as per FotMob, which suggests he'd bring a rare attacking threat to Leeds' side from the between the sticks.
In addition to that, no keeper in the Italian top flight saved more than his three penalties last term, whilst he also made zero errors leading to goals and kept 11 clean sheets with just 24 goals conceded from 27 games.
Going back to 2024-25, again, no Serie A keeper kept out more penalties than his four, whilst he also led the league in saves made (135), goals prevented (10.6) and accurate long balls (275) respectively during his final season with Torino.
So, not only is he proven to be a quality shot-stopper, penalty-saving specialist and a uniquely good supplier of attacking chances, he could also be available for a very respectable fee too.
How much Leeds may have to pay for Milinkovic-Savic revealed
Proven goalkeepers, especially ones who've consistently performed in a top European league for years, are rare commodities on the transfer market.
Clubs that have them often don't want to sell, and so when they do, the asking price can typically be steep.
However, that doesn't appear to be the case with Napoli and Milinkovic-Savic this summer.
According to a recent report from Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, Napoli's starting price for Milinkovic-Savic is £12.7million.
For that sort of price, this has to be viewed as a no-brainer for Leeds, as he looks sure to have plenty of good years left in the tank as well and would solve their most prominent transfer problem at the moment.
