Leeds United's transformation over the past few seasons has been rapid.

Since 49ers Enterprises completed their big-money takeover in July 2023, changes have happened at a pace.

It took a couple of goes for Daniel Farke to get Leeds out of the Championship, of course.

But their return to the Premier League ultimately was a success, though, despite being embroiled in relegation trouble until a late-season unbeaten run.

There is absolutely no time to stand still, though, and Leeds are working hard to bring in reinforcements this summer.

Looking at Leeds' transfer plans, it is clear there is no room for sentiment, which is surely pointing to an inevitable Elland Road exit.

Leeds can't sit still, inevitable exit on cards

If there is one thing Leeds, and many others, have potentially been guilty of in the past, it's keeping player beyond their peak.

You can understand why, because fans make an emotional attachment to players who have achieved so much and given their all to the shirt.

If you look at Leeds' transfer plans, though, it is clear they have no intention of falling into that trap.

Leeds' sole signing this summer is the free transfer of Harry Wilson, but Daniel Farke is clearly keen on boosting his midfield options.

Southampton midfielder Shea Charles has been the subject of rebuffed offers, but Leeds remain keen on doing a deal.

Parma midfielder Mandela Keita has also been on Leeds' radar, though is has since been suggested there is nothing concrete in that.

Regardless, though, Leeds are looking to add real quality to their engine room, and you sense that will lead to an inevitable exit for Ilia Gruev.

The Bulgaria midfielder was a crucial cog in Leeds getting promoted in the 2024/25 seasons, and there is an argument that you need plenty of depth in the Premier League.

But Leeds could end up overstocked in the centre of the park, meaning he could be surplus to requirements.

The recruitment team clear feel there are upgrades that can be made, while he could also bring in a reasonable fee to recoup some cash spent on transfers.

It does sadly feel like the end is nigh for Gruev.

What else do Leeds need this summer?

Midfielder has clearly been area identified as one that needs reinforcement.

But Leeds also could do with more options at centre-back, especially with Pascal Struijk having been sold to Brighton.

Moreover, in an ideal world Leeds would probably look at bolstering their options in goal, though that might depend on how things go with Karl Darlow's contract.

Another striker to play with Dominic Calvert-Lewin or offer quality back-up would also not go amiss this summer.
