Kalvin Phillips has already issued advice to player edging towards Leeds transfer
Kalvin Phillips may have played a part in the development of Leeds United's next signing.
The midfielder featured 234 times for the Whites, with 14 goals and 13 assists in that time.
That earned him a £45million move to Manchester City in 2022, after 12 years with the LS11 side.
He has played 34 times for the Citizens, spending time with West Ham, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United.
His connection with the Peacocks supporters is still very strong, and he has constantly been linked with a move back.
Now, it appears that Phillips may have already influenced the career of a player who looks set to join the Elland Road club.
Who looks set to join Leeds United?
Shea Charles looks set to be Daniel Farke's first signing of the summer, if they can convince Southampton to sell.
The Whites have made a £20million bid for the former City youth ace, which was rejected by the South Coast club, per The Athletic.
Talks are ongoing, with the Saints wanting more money that what is currently on offer.
What was Kalvin Phillips' advice for Shea Charles?
Phillips was part of the senior squad when Charles was coming through the ranks in Manchester.
The 22-year-old revealed that he took advice from the former Whites star, Fernandinho and Rodri.
In quotes reported by the Manchester Evening News in March 2023, he said: “It’s more with the likes of Fernandinho before he left, Rodri now, Kalvin Phillips as well now, because they play in my position.
“Watching them, learning, asking questions, that’s the main thing. The reading of the game – game intelligence and a good range of passing is really important."
Phillips' game would be a perfect one to model his own off, to try to endear himself to the supporters in Yorkshire.
If he can have half of the contributions that the 30-year-old had in a Peacocks shirt, it would be a superb signing, and help them to establish themselves as a top-flight side.
He will face competition from the likes of Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, but clearly backs himself to get into the side.
There is a risk as he does not have much experience at the top level, with one league game for Pep Guardiola's side, but he has a lot of talent and potential.
If Farke's side want to sign him, then they must have seen something that makes them believe that he can make the step up.
