How Leeds already have Michael Zetterer advantage amid 'complex' Frankfurt situation
Michael Zetterer has recently emerged as goalkeeping option for Leeds United, with the Whites potentially able to profit on his situation at Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Frankfurt shot-stopper would be coming in as second-choice behind James Trafford should a deal be agreed.
With the initial reports, Leeds were not given much positivity as regards to a deal getting over the line.
Zetterer is said to want to remain with the Bundesliga club, as there is still an open competition for the number one position.
For Leeds, that is not ideal should they wish to push for a transfer.
However, the latest information out of Frankfurt suggests all hope may not be lost yet.
How Frankfurt's ongoing goalkeeper crisis may yet benefit Leeds
With Zetterer's ambition to stay and fight to be Frankfurt number one the main reason listed, if that obstacle was removed, it could make a move to Leeds easier.
At the moment, the Bundesliga side have the Leeds target and Brazilian Kaua Santos in their ranks.
However, neither have proven themselves to manager Adi Hutter.
The situation has been described as "complex" by Frankfurt outlet Frankfurter Rundschau.
The report shares that Hutter is now seriously considering dipping into the goalkeeper market to improve his options, rather than utilise Zetterer or Santos for the 2026-2027 season.
It is also said that while Zetterer was looking to stay, that reveal could make him reconsider his options, with Leeds' interest directly mentioned.
However, that would also require Frankfurt to pick up two goalkeepers in this current transfer window.
Why Leeds can be relaxed over second-choice keeper hunt
With Trafford between the sticks, Leeds already have their number one and he will likely start all of their games in the lead up to deadline day.
There will be some concerns that if the unfortunate happens and Trafford gets either injured or suspended, they will be left short with just Alex Cairns to step up.
However, Trafford has a remarkably clean health bill, with just one game missed through injury or illness throughout his career.
That came with Trafford being listed as "ill" by Transfermarkt back in 2024.
Additionally, in 198 games across youth and senior football, he only has one red card which came in the Premier League 2.
So it would be incredibly unlucky for Daniel Farke that if at any stage over the next three games Trafford is unavailable for selection.
