Jacob Widell Zetterstrom has emerged as a target for Leeds United as they look to bolster their goalkeeping department.

Leeds are edging closer to having their first arrival of the summer confirmed with a deal for Harry Wilson imminent.

However, the Whites still have two main priorities to address, with one of them being another striker while the other concerns their goalkeeping issues.

Karl Darlow, who has been linked with an exit from Elland Road, became their number one last season, and remains that way as of right now.

With that said, it's been apparent for a while now that they are keen on improving on the Wales international.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 26 June that Leeds are among those to have made contact to sign Zetterstrom, and as per Graham Potter's latest comments on the Derby star, it seems they are barking up the right tree.

What would Jacob Widell Zetterstrom bring to Leeds?

The Whites need solidity between the sticks, which is something they have lacked for years now, and Zetterstrom certainly looks as though he would provide it.

He had an excellent campaign in the Championship last time out with the Rams, where he ranked among the top 25.9 per cent of goalkeepers for his save percentage.

However, what stands out the most is his goals prevented, which comes in at 5.48.

It demonstrates his ability to come up clutch when his team need him the most, and that quality was highlighted by Potter after Sweden's draw with Japan.

As quoted by the Derby Telegraph, Potter said: "He has had a fantastic season and has been very good in our training.

"All players have different qualities, and we believe that Jacob's qualities can contribute and help us in this match. He's a fantastic goalkeeper. You can see what he contributes. He can make big saves."

He did so in that clash with Japan, when he denied Keito Nakamura with a diving save to his lower left.

How Zetterstrom's situation at Derby plays into Leeds' favour

Leeds aren't the only team to have shown an interest in the 27-year-old, nor are they likely to be the last.

However, the first thing that they have to offer is Premier League football, which is a huge draw to any transfer target.

As for their chances of landing his signing, the fact that he has just one year left on his contract with the Rams should spark optimism.

This summer will be the last chance that Derby have to get a signficant sum of money for his exit, and given their position in the Championship, they seem unlikely to pass up on that.
