England's World Cup dream is over, but Leeds United's Daniel Farke may be one of the biggest winners.

Despite his excellent season for the Whites, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was snubbed by Thomas Tuchel for his final squad.

In truth, the 29-year-old would have thoroughly deserved the call-up had he been on the plane.

But, Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins got the nod instead following their respective campaigns.

As England look to close out the competition in the third-place playoff, one statistic will have Farke thanking Tuchel.

A place in England's squad does not always include a meaningful involvement, and with Calvert-Lewin's history it may have actually been a negative.

The England World Cup stat that would have made Dominic Calvert-Lewin call-up pointless

Calvert-Lewin's injury history is well-documented but Leeds have found a formula that has got him back to be consistently available.

The break over the summer has likely done the Englishman the world of good, even if he was left disappointed by missing out on the World Cup.

Even if he was called up, there would likely have been little impact for the 29-year-old to make.

Farke would have wanted Calvert-Lewin to keep his match sharpness up seeing as he would have missed most of pre-season.

But Tuchel seemingly refused to turn to his other striking options beside Harry Kane.

Ivan Toney, who was England's third-choice, the likely role that Calvert-Lewin would have played, was only handed one minute, excluding added time, throughout the tournament.

That came in the game against Argentina. Throughout the competition, Toney was the joint-least used striker, as per FotMob.

Additionally, Ollie Watkins was not handed much more, getting just six minutes excluding added time.

England were the only side to have two strikers in the top 10 least used players, among 155 strikers that saw the pitch.

So, Farke will certainly be thanking Tuchel that Calvert-Lewin was not selected just to head off to North America, and risk injury without much reward to come from it.

When will Calvert-Lewin play in pre-season for Leeds?

If Calvert-Lewin had gone to the World Cup, he likely would not have returned for the Whites until the pre-season game against Manchester United on 12 August.

The FIFA-sanctioned 21-day holiday following the tournament would have had him return on 9 August following the third-place game on 18 July.

MOT Leeds News have done a full rundown of Leeds' pre-season schedule, which includes six fixtures.

These games start from 25 July against Wrexham, until 15 August before the season officially starts on 22 August.

And Calvert-Lewin will be able to start right where he left off with a full pre-season under his belt.
