The Premier League trend that Leeds United are defying as supercomputer prediction challenged
Leeds United are defying expectations in the Premier League so far.
Daniel Farke's side are sitting in the top five of the league table, with the LS11 outfit yet to lose a game.
It has been an exceptional start, with talk of Farke being handed a new contract at Leeds.
There have been plenty of changes within the German's squad, and often that can prove to be an issue for teams.
Of course, it is still early days, with only five games of a 38-match season so far.
But, the Whites are proving to be different from the rest of the pack when it comes to those new signings.
How Leeds are the Premier League's exception to one rule
Wholesale changes can backfire on a team, but the Whites have been smart by slowly trickling their new signings into the fold.
James Trafford and Tarik Muharemovic have been the early standouts from what was a successful summer from the Yorkshire side.
While others such as Harry Wilson and Jean-Matteo Bahoya are yet to hit top form.
However, as detailed by Opta, teams that hand out more starts to new players in the early stages of the season have typically performed the worst.
But, Leeds United are the exception to that trend.
Teams such as Tottenham, Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Leeds United are among the top six for most starts for summer signings.
However, all but Leeds are either only slightly overperforming their 2026-27 projection or underperforming.
The Whites are the only team deying those expectations, sitting 10 places above their predicted finish.
This is while sitting joint-fourth for starts to 2026 summer signings.
Where can Leeds improve?
Leeds, as mentioned, are still waiting on the likes of Wilson and Bahoya to have an impact following their arrivals this summer.
For the Welshman it has been a slow start, with Wilson dropping out of the starting lineup over the last few games.
However, if those two players can hit form the Whites will have plenty more firepower to utilise and potentially solve an early issue.
Among the top five, Farke's side have scored the fewest number of goals with just seven this season.
Getting better in the final third will allow the Whites to continue to defy the odds, and prove the supercomputer's original projection of 15th place wrong.
Leeds have every right to be ambitious with this season's goals.
