Premier League panel rule on Ethan Ampadu controversy in Leeds vs Crystal Palace

Leeds United's recent draw against Crystal Palace was not without its controversy.

Daniel Farke's men were unable to find a way past the Eagles in a rather underwhelming 0-0 draw.

Palace thought they had found the breakthrough in the second half, only for Tyrick Mitchell's goal to be ruled out for offside.

Palace's goal was ruled out against Leeds due to Anan Khalaili being in an offside position in the build-up.

There could be no disputing that decision, as tight as it was, thanks to the semi-automated offside technology.

However, another incident in the game involving Ethan Ampadu was more open to debate.

Palace wanted a penalty in the 71st minute when Daichi Kamada went to ground under pressure from Ampadu.

Referee Adam Herczeg, officiating in the Premier League for the first time, waved play on.

The Premier League's Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel has now shared its finding on whether a penalty should have been awarded.

The panel voted unanimously 5-0 that referee Herczeg made the right call on the day in not giving a penalty.

It was decided that Ampadu fairly won the ball before making any sort of contact with his opponent.

But the offside goal and the Ampadu 'foul' were not the only incidents they ruled over.

The panel were also unanimous in agreeing Mitchell did not handle the ball in the first half, with Leeds wanting a pen.

It was agreed the Palace full-back's arms were in an "expected position".

One incident that the KMI could not rule over was Tarik Muharemovic trying to buy Leeds a free-kick.

Keith Hackett slammed Muharemovic's "unacceptable" actions in an exclusive chat with MOT Leeds News, suggesting he tried to con the officials.

But that is not one the panel could review, so Muharemovic was never at risk of any sort of retrospective action in this latest meeting.
