Paul Merson shares Leeds vs Man United scenario that'd leave him 'very disappointed'
Paul Merson does not fancy Manchester United's chances of turning their season around against Leeds United.
The Whites welcome their fierce rivals to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon in the standout home fixture of the season.
Leeds were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in what was a valiant effort at Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
That was Leeds' first defeat of the Premier League campaign in their sixth outing, placing them seventh in the table on nine points.
Man United, meanwhile, are three points worse off in 13th place after their worst start to a campaign in 40 years.
And Merson does not believe life will get any easier for Michael Carrick next weekend.
What has Paul Merson said ahead of Leeds vs Man United?
Merson has already described this as a "nightmare" week for Man United, who are away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Another loss for Carrick in the league, regardless of what happens in Madrid, could well lead to the sack.
And in the view of Merson, Leeds now enter this game as favourites to take all three points.
"If you're a Leeds United fan this week, and no disrespect, you'd be very disappointed if you're beaten by Man United," he said on Sky Sports Soccer Special on Tuesday night.
"It's a big week and I couldn't think of a worse run of games coming up [for Man United]."
Merson is not wrong. Leeds fans will head into the game knowing that three points are very much there for the taking.
When did Leeds last beat Man United at Elland Road?
Not that Leeds fans will need reminding, but it has been a long time since they last saw their side beat Man United on their home patch.
It last happened 24 years ago with a 1-0 win in September 2002 through a second-half Harry Kewell goal.
Man United are unbeaten in seven league trips to Elland Road since then, winning five times and drawing the other two.
Leeds picked up a victory at Old Trafford last season; now there is no reason why the home hoodoo in this fixture cannot come to an end.
