Karl Darlow’s Leeds United reunion could come sooner than expected after Manchester United update

Karl Darlow could be set for a reunion with Leeds United in their friendly with Manchester United on Wednesday.

The goalkeeper departed Elland Road at the end of his contract, and linked up with the Old Trafford side.

The two sides are set to face off in Dublin on 12 August, but the 35-year-old's involvement was in doubt.

He was yet to feature in the Red Devils preparations for the upcoming campaign.

However, he could make his first appearance for his new side against the team that he has just left.

The latest update from Michael Carrick's side suggests that he may be involved against Daniel Farke's side.

Darlow made the unexpected swap after he could not agree a new deal with the Peacocks.

He could return to action against his former team when they face off at the 82,300 capacity Croke Park stadium.

That is because the Red Devils revealed on 9 August that he has joined their training in County Kildare ahead of the contest.

Nine players have returned to their base, including Matheus Cunha, Kobbie Mainoo, Senne Lammens and Marcus Rashford.

The ex-LS11 ace will be the one that supporters are keeping an eye on, though, given the rivalry between the two sides.

How Leeds could get one over on Darlow after rival move

Leeds could make it a miserable evening for the Welshman, if they can secure victory with him in between the sticks for the opposition.

It would be even more satisfying if James Trafford keeps a clean sheet in the contest, but the league is where it really matters.

Farke's side face their rivals on 17 October at home, before an away trip on 15 May, which could be moved for television, and they will be hoping to do the double.

Most supporters will be happy with how the situation has turned out, as the former Manchester City man is viewed as a significant upgrade for the Yorkshire outfit.

He will likely cement the number one jersey for years to come and mean that their starting goalkeeper position is under no doubt.

That was not the case with Darlow, as it always felt like there was an upgrade out there and he was just a temporary solution.
